Patna: Bihar politician Gopal Mandal, a Janata Dal (United) MLA known for his outspoken remarks and frequent controversies, has once again attracted attention after a video of him dancing and striking a supporter went viral.
The footage, filmed at a Dandia Night held at his son Ashish Mandal’s restaurant during Durga Puja celebrations, shows Mandal moving to the popular song Dhinka Chika. Initially cheered by supporters, the atmosphere reportedly turned tense when a nearby attendee attempted to restrain the MLA. Mandal responded by slapping the individual on stage, leaving onlookers visibly shocked. Others on stage intervened to calm the situation.
#GopalMandal #Bihar #JDU #StageDrama pic.twitter.com/4cSwh9C9xg

The video has spread rapidly across social media, drawing mixed reactions. Critics have questioned whether such conduct is appropriate for an elected representative, while some observers framed the incident as characteristic of Mandal’s well-documented pattern of controversial behaviour.
This is not the first time Mandal, considered a close ally of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has faced public scrutiny. Previous incidents include a viral video showing him walking on a train in his underwear, which sparked widespread criticism and media attention. Analysts suggest the latest episode could provide opposition parties with further ammunition against the JD(U).
Neither Mandal nor the party leadership has issued an official comment. Yet with the video circulating widely online, political observers anticipate mounting pressure on the JD(U) to respond.
