Gaya: Lawyers in Gurua have boycotted judicial work following allegations that an advocate was detained overnight at a police station and later brought to court in handcuffs.
The protest began after advocate Musafir Ravidas, a resident of Teliya Chak village, alleged that he was subjected to inappropriate treatment by police personnel at Gurua police station in Gaya district.
Advocate alleges illegal detention
According to reports, Ravidas had gone to the police station in connection with a dispute involving children in his village. He alleged that soon after arriving at the station, station house officer (SHO) Manish Kumar ordered that he be confined in the lock-up.
The advocate claimed he was kept at the police station overnight and was not provided adequate food or other basic facilities.
The following day, police reportedly produced him before the court in an open vehicle while he was handcuffed.
Protest inside court premises
Members of the Bar Association present at the court premises objected after seeing the advocate in handcuffs. Lawyers staged a protest and demanded that the handcuffs be removed immediately.
