Gaya: A handcrafted Tazia designed in the shape of a helicopter has emerged as a major attraction in Jhikatia village under Imamganj block of Gaya during this year’s Muharram observances.
Locals from Imamganj and surrounding areas, including Dumariya, Bankebazar and Budhwa, have been visiting the village to view the intricately designed structure, which features rotor blades, a tail section and a fuselage-like frame made from bamboo, thermocol, coloured paper and decorative lighting.
Helicopter-Style Design Draws Attention
The Tazia’s aviation-inspired design has been widely appreciated for its craftsmanship and visual detailing. Residents said the structure has become a key attraction this year due to its distinctive form and aesthetic appeal.
According to villagers, the display has also strengthened participation in local Muharram traditions, with visitors gathering in large numbers to witness the installation and decoration.
Ten Years of Continuous Craftsmanship
The Tazia has been crafted by Pradeep Sharma, a Hindu carpenter from Jhikatia village, who has been making Tazias for nearly a decade.
He said each year brings a new design challenge, and this year’s helicopter-inspired model took around 20 days to complete.
Sharma said he uses locally available materials such as bamboo, thermocol and paper, adding that creativity and craftsmanship drive his work during the annual observance.
Message of Social Harmony
Locals, including Md Shamim of Jhikatia, said Sharma’s contribution has consistently reflected participation across communities and long-standing social cooperation in the village.
Residents described the initiative as a symbol of brotherhood and mutual respect, noting that religious identity has not acted as a barrier in the shared cultural practice.
Peaceful Observance in the Region
Officials and local administration personnel were present during Muharram processions and Tazia displays across the block, which were held peacefully.
Authorities confirmed that the observance remained orderly, with participation from multiple villages and community groups across the region.
