Patna: The ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna, concluded Hindi Fortnight 2026 with a closing-cum-prize distribution ceremony on September 29.
The programme was presided over by Dr Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, while Virendra Kumar Yadav, Member of the Hindi Advisory Committee, Government of India, attended as the chief guest.
The programme focused on strengthening the use of Hindi in official work as well as in agricultural research and scientific communication.
Hindi Can Help Take Scientific Knowledge to Farmers
Delivering a lecture on “Viksit Bharat Mein Rajbhasha Hindi Ka Yogdan”, Virendra Kumar Yadav highlighted the significance of Hindi as the Official Language and its role in nation-building.
He said Hindi can serve as an effective medium for disseminating knowledge and information among different sections of society.
He particularly emphasised the use of Hindi in agriculture and scientific research, noting that research findings, technological innovations and scientific information can reach farmers and the general public more effectively when communicated in simple and accessible language.
He also called upon officers and employees to use Hindi for official signatures.
Director Emphasises Hindi in Official Work
In his presidential address, Dr Anup Das appreciated the participation of scientists, officers and employees in the activities organised during Hindi Fortnight.
He said such programmes help generate interest in Hindi while encouraging its use in the Institute’s official and scientific work.
Dr Das informed the gathering that both the Patna headquarters and Ranchi centre of ICAR-RCER have been notified in the Gazette of India. He emphasised that officers and employees proficient in Hindi should undertake their administrative work in Hindi.
He also stressed the regular and effective use of Hindi in official notings, correspondence, reports and other administrative activities.
Scientists Urged to Prepare Farmer-Friendly Content
Dr Aashutosh Upadhyaya, HOD-cum-Co-Chairman of the Institute Official Language Implementation Committee, called upon scientists to prepare more articles, extension folders and other useful scientific material in Hindi for farmers.
He emphasised that scientific information should be presented in simple and easy-to-understand Hindi so that farmers can make better use of agricultural research and technological knowledge.
According to him, greater use of accessible Hindi content can strengthen the exchange of knowledge between scientific institutions and the farming community.
Essay Writing, Quiz and Poetry Competitions Organised
Earlier, Dr Shivani, Principal Scientist-cum-Member of the Institute Official Language Implementation Committee, presented a report on Hindi Fortnight 2026.
Various competitions were organised at the Institute between September 15 and 28, including:
- Essay writing
- Unicode typing
- Grammar
- Extempore speech
- Word meanings
- Quiz
- Self-composed poetry recitation
- Antakshari
Scientists, officers, employees and students of the IARI Patna Hub participated in the activities.
Two-Day Hindi Workshop Held
A two-day Hindi workshop was also organised on September 23 and 24.
The sessions covered topics including the use of Hindi in E-Office and the role of e-media in disseminating agricultural information.
Another session focused on different aspects of agriculture aimed at increasing farmers’ income and livelihoods.
Winners Felicitated With Cash Prizes and Certificates
Winners of the various competitions held during Hindi Fortnight were felicitated with cash prizes and certificates of appreciation.
Officers who delivered lectures during the Hindi workshops were also presented with certificates in recognition of their contribution.
The participants and winners were encouraged for their active involvement, with the programme emphasising the need to further strengthen the use of Hindi in official and scientific work.
Official Language Committee Supports Programme
Members of the Institute Official Language Implementation Committee, along with Umesh Kumar Mishra, Senior Technical Assistant (Hindi Translator), contributed to the successful organisation of the Hindi Fortnight programme.
The event concluded with an emphasis on expanding the use of Hindi not only in administrative work but also in communicating agricultural research and scientific knowledge to farmers and the wider public.
