Patna: The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, celebrated Anti-Ragging Day on Tuesday, with plans to continue the initiative as Anti-Ragging Week until August 18.
The awareness drive began with a march led by Principal Ranjit Guha and Medical Superintendent Manish Mandal, joined by all MBBS students, from the medical college portico to the Indira Gandhi statue via the main gate. Participants carried banners and posters calling for the eradication of ragging in educational institutions.
According to Mandal, the observance aims to highlight the harmful effects of ragging and foster a safe, respectful, and supportive academic environment. The programme aligns with National Medical Commission and University Grants Commission guidelines, which require all higher educational institutions to mark the day.
During the week, IGIMS will host awareness activities, including a workshop on August 13 where the Director, Principal, and Deans of Academics, Examination, and Student Welfare will address students on preventive measures and the role of both the institution and the student community in tackling ragging.
