Patna: Bihar Police have challenged Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav’s assertion of 17 recent criminal incidents in the state, noting that his social media post failed to specify locations, dates, or references that could verify the events.
Police headquarters said several of the cited incidents differ from actual cases, and that all reported crimes—big or small—are being pursued with seriousness. From January to June this year, 64,098 accused were convicted in 46,616 cases by state courts, with sentences ranging from the death penalty to life imprisonment and other punishments exceeding 10 years.
Officials also clarified details on several high-profile cases. In Motihari, businessman Neeraj, allegedly kidnapped for Rs 2 lakh ransom on Sunday, was found dead the next day in Muzaffarpur district. All six named accused have been arrested. In Patna’s Khagaul area, five people were arrested and one surrendered in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a father and son earlier this month.
Recent murders under investigation include the killing of Gudiya Kumari in Samastipur on Monday, the stabbing death of an unidentified youth in Muzaffarpur the same day, and the Tuesday discovery of two female bodies in Sitamarhi’s Patdaura Tola. In Nalanda, a man is on the run after killing his wife with a spade on Monday.
Other cases include shootings, assaults, and murders in Patna, Gaya, Supaul, Nalanda, Kaimur, Siwan, Darbhanga, and other districts. Police reported multiple arrests in cases such as the August 10 killing of a sarpanch’s son in Supaul, the August 3 murder of Nikhil Kumar in Nalanda, and the August 5 shooting of Rahul Kumar in Darbhanga, which was linked to a love affair.
