Patna: The Bihar chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) organised a blood donation camp at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in collaboration with the institute’s blood bank as part of the nationwide observance of Surgeons’ Week.
The camp witnessed the participation of around 30 surgeons from IGIMS, who donated blood to support patients in need and promote voluntary blood donation.
Dr Manish Mandal, secretary of the ASI Bihar chapter, said the initiative was being conducted under the theme “Donate Blood – Give the Gift of Life”.
“As part of the nationwide celebration of Surgeons’ Week, surgeons across India, including those in Bihar, are donating blood for patients and the wider community,” he said.
Among those who donated blood at the camp were Dr Manish Mandal, Dr Saket Kumar and Dr Amarjit Kumar Raj, along with several other surgeons from the institute.
Dr Mandal said the campaign aimed to lead by example and encourage greater public participation in blood donation.
“We are donating blood ourselves so that the message reaches society and more people come forward to donate blood for the benefit of those in need,” he said.
The organisers said voluntary blood donation remains critical for maintaining adequate blood supplies for emergency care, surgeries and treatment of patients with various medical conditions.
The event was attended by Dr Ashok Kumar Sinha, Assistant Director of IGIMS, and Dr B N Chaudhary, president of the ASI Bihar chapter, among other senior medical professionals.
The blood donation drive formed part of a broader series of activities being organised during Surgeons’ Week to promote public health awareness and community service.
