Patna: IIM Bodh Gaya and IIT Patna have signed an addendum to their existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formally establishing the operational framework for a five-year integrated BTech and MBA dual degree programme. The agreement, announced on July 16, is intended to align with the multidisciplinary objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, according to the two institutions.
The full-time residential programme will admit up to 60 students and follow a 3+2 academic structure. Students will complete the first three years of their BTech or BS degree at IIT Patna before moving to IIM Bodh Gaya to pursue a two-year MBA.
What the Agreement Covers
The addendum was signed by IIM Bodh Gaya Director Vinita Singh Sahay and IIT Patna Director T.N. Singh on behalf of their respective institutions.
According to the institutes, the agreement formalises the academic, administrative and operational arrangements required to run the integrated programme, which combines engineering, science and interdisciplinary studies with management education.
The programme has been designed to prepare graduates for roles requiring both technical expertise and business leadership, the institutions said.
How Students Will Be Admitted
Admission to the programme will be based on the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.
Under the admission framework, eligible candidates who secure a seat through JoSAA will also gain entry to the MBA component of the programme. This means students enrolled in the integrated course will not be required to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) to study management at IIM Bodh Gaya.
The institutions said this integrated pathway is intended to provide continuity between undergraduate engineering education and postgraduate management studies.
How the Five-Year Programme Will Work
Students admitted to the programme will begin their studies at IIT Patna, where they will complete the first three years of the integrated curriculum. They will then relocate to IIM Bodh Gaya for the remaining two years to pursue the MBA.
The induction programme for incoming students will be held at IIT Patna, while the joint degree certificate will be awarded during the convocation ceremony at IIM Bodh Gaya, according to the institutions.
Joint Placement Support Planned
The two institutes said they will jointly support placements for graduates of the programme through their respective placement cells.
According to the announcement, the collaboration aims to improve employment opportunities across sectors that increasingly require both technical and managerial skills, including artificial intelligence, healthcare management, supply chain management, telecommunications and digital public infrastructure.
Financial Assistance for Eligible Students
IIM Bodh Gaya and IIT Patna said they will offer need-based financial assistance for the MBA and BTech components of the programme in accordance with their respective scholarship policies.
The institutes said the assistance is intended to support eligible students throughout the five-year course.
