Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna will host its 12th convocation ceremony on August 26, marking the largest graduation in the institute’s history with 1,320 degrees to be conferred.
Announcing the details at a press conference, IIT Patna director Prof T N Singh said Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will attend the event as chief guest, with minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai as guest of honour. BR Shankaranand, national organising secretary of the Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, will join as distinguished guest.
Of the degrees awarded this year, 445 will go to BTech graduates, 47 to BS students and 8 to those completing the dual BTech-MBA programme. The convocation will also see 207 MTech, 85 MSc and 64 PhD students receive their scrolls. In addition, 221 students from the hybrid MTech programme and 243 from the hybrid MBA programme will graduate.
Altogether, 856 students from regular academic programmes and 464 from hybrid courses will be honoured. Four gold medals and 28 silver medals will be awarded for academic excellence.
The ceremony will follow a strict dress code: male students must wear plain white kurtas with churidar or pajama, while female students may opt for a white kurta with churidar or a white saree with a thin golden border. Coloured prints, embroidery or heavy borders are prohibited.
Convocation stoles will also differ by discipline — green for BTech, blue for MTech, MSc and executive MTech, turquoise blue for hybrid MBA, red for PhD and gold for dignitaries.
Prof Singh said the ceremony was “not just the end of an academic journey, but a celebration of achievements, hard work and excellence.” A rehearsal has been scheduled for August 25.
Preparations at the IIT Patna campus are in full swing, with faculty and organising committee members overseeing arrangements to ensure the event runs smoothly.
