Patna: India Post has launched its New Franchise Scheme 2.0, presenting it as an easy and affordable self-employment option for people in Bihar. The scheme is aimed at ordinary citizens, young people looking for work, small shopkeepers and new entrepreneurs who want to start a business but cannot invest large amounts of money. By becoming a postal franchisee, participants can earn a regular income while providing essential postal and parcel services in their local areas.
Under this scheme, franchisees work with the trusted India Post brand to offer services such as Speed Post, parcel delivery, international postal services, pick-up and delivery, and cash on delivery. In return, they receive a fixed commission on every service they provide. Officials say this model not only helps individuals become self-reliant but also strengthens postal services in urban, semi-urban and rural regions, where reliable delivery is increasingly important.
A key feature of Franchise Scheme 2.0 is its focus on digital systems. All operations are carried out through modern mobile applications and online platforms. Payments are made through digital wallets, customers can track parcels in real time, and accounts are maintained transparently. This ensures that franchisees receive their commission on time. Those who perform well may also earn extra incentives ranging from 25 to 30 percent, making the scheme more rewarding for committed participants.
The eligibility rules are simple and designed to include a wide range of people. Applicants must be Indian citizens aged 18 or above. A minimum qualification of Class 12 is required, while Class 10 is sufficient for delivery-related work. Basic knowledge of using a smartphone or computer is necessary, and delivery staff must have a valid driving licence. The franchise can be run from small spaces such as neighbourhood shops, mobile stores, farms or restaurants, keeping costs low.
India Post will support selected franchisees with training, technical help, branding guidance and continuous assistance. The department believes the scheme will create local jobs and promote small entrepreneurship, especially in rural and semi-urban areas of Bihar. Seen as part of larger national goals like Atmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India and Startup India, the New Franchise Scheme 2.0 aims to connect people with self-employment opportunities while expanding the reach of postal services across the state.
