Patna: Indian Railways has announced a series of summer special train services linking key routes across Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal, as authorities respond to an anticipated surge in passenger demand during the holiday season.
The additional services include a special train between Bhagalpur and Delhi, alongside another connecting the capital with Howrah, aimed at easing congestion on long-distance routes.
According to railway officials, train number 04062 will run from Delhi to Bhagalpur every Tuesday from April 21 to July 14, departing at 11:45am and arriving at 1:30pm the following day. The return service, 04061, will leave Bhagalpur every Wednesday from April 22 to July 15 at 4:30pm, reaching Delhi at 8:10pm the next evening.
The Bhagalpur–Delhi service will halt at stations including Sultanganj, Jamalpur and Abhaipur. Officials said the train would include general, sleeper and air-conditioned coaches to cater to a range of passengers.
In a parallel move, a summer special service between Delhi and Howrah will operate from April 17 to July 10. Train number 04052 will depart Delhi every Friday at 6:15pm, arriving in Howrah at 11:40pm the next day, except on 22 April when it will not run.
The return service, 04051, will leave Howrah every Sunday from 19 April to 12 July at 1:40am, reaching Delhi at 8:20am the following morning.
Railway authorities said the measures were designed not only for long-distance travellers but also to improve regional connectivity. From April 10, 12-coach MEMU services will begin operating on the Sahibganj–Jamalpur and Jamalpur–Kiul sections, a move expected to ease daily commuting pressures.
Ticket booking dates for the special services are expected to be announced shortly.
