Patna: Fourteen flights operated by IndiGo Airlines were cancelled on Thursday across four airports in Bihar, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated. The cancellations affected Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Purnia airports, with Patna bearing the brunt of the disruption.
At Patna Airport alone, ten flights were cancelled and approximately 12 were delayed. Gaya and Darbhanga each saw one flight cancelled, while Purnia experienced two cancellations. The disruption led to unrest among passengers, some of whom staged protests at Patna and Gaya airports before being pacified by airport officials and CISF personnel.
Many travellers were forced to seek alternative transport. “We were booked on an Indigo flight to Delhi, but it was cancelled. As a result, we are forced to travel by train with general tickets,” said Deepak Kumar, a passenger at Patna Airport.
The situation was particularly distressing at Gaya Airport, where Indigo flight 6E 2416 to Delhi was cancelled despite passengers having received boarding passes. Thirty-five passengers from Vietnam, along with others, were left stranded after arriving at the airport by 9 a.m. for a flight scheduled at 12:15 p.m. Many of them had connecting flights from Delhi to Mumbai, including flight 6E 6773, and faced sudden disruption to their travel plans.
IndiGo Airlines has not yet released a detailed explanation for the cancellations. The incident highlights ongoing operational challenges faced by airlines, which continue to affect travellers across Bihar.
