Patna: Nitish Kumar is set to receive global recognition after taking oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister for the tenth time, with the World Book of Records, London, confirming its intention to honour him for what it describes as a “historic and unique achievement.”
In a congratulatory letter sent to the Chief Minister, the organisation said no leader in any Indian state has taken the oath of office as Chief Minister ten times between 1947 and 2025. The milestone, it noted, sets a new benchmark in the country’s democratic system and reflects a rare continuity of leadership.
The letter emphasised that the achievement is not merely personal. It signifies “the enduring trust of the people of Bihar” in Nitish Kumar’s governance, development agenda and administrative stability. His long political career, marked by repeated returns to office, was cited as an example of how sustained public confidence can shape democratic leadership.
The organisation wrote that leading a state for such an extended period — and returning repeatedly through shifting political landscapes — is “a moment of pride for the nation.” Nitish Kumar’s governance model, it said, has stood out for its focus on social justice, public welfare, infrastructure development and law-and-order improvements.

It also highlighted the impact of his policies on roads, health, education and women’s empowerment, noting that many of these initiatives have influenced national discourse. The letter observed that achieving ten terms as Chief Minister in a vast and politically fluid democracy like India is extremely rare and requires both political skill and administrative efficiency.
The World Book of Records said Nitish Kumar’s name will be formally included in its global honours list, and he will be presented with an official certificate at a ceremony to be organised soon. Preparations for the event are underway, and the Bihar government has welcomed the announcement as a significant moment for the state.
Reactions to Nitish Kumar’s tenth swearing-in had already sparked national discussion, but the global recognition has added a new dimension to the political conversation. Many observers say the honour underscores not just Nitish Kumar’s longevity in politics, but also the broader evolution of Bihar’s governance model under his leadership.
According to the organisation, the recognition sends a message across Indian democracy: that continuity, public trust and administrative stability come through leaders who remain closely connected to the people they serve.
