Patna: Apple is preparing to launch its highly anticipated iPhone 17 series at the “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, with four models expected: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone 17 Air. While official details remain scarce, leaks have highlighted significant differences between the flagship Pro Max and the ultra-thin Air, drawing attention from technology enthusiasts worldwide.
Design
The iPhone 17 Air is tipped to be Apple’s thinnest device yet, measuring just 5.5mm and weighing approximately 145g. Rumoured to feature a horizontal camera setup and a pill-shaped cutout reminiscent of Google’s Pixel phones, it may come with a single rear camera and a titanium frame, available in black, white, light blue, and light gold.
In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to adopt an aluminium frame and a horizontal camera arrangement. A larger rectangular cutout and a heavier build, estimated at over 220g and 7.75mm thick due to a bigger battery and vapor cooling system, will set it apart. Colour options are predicted to include black, white, gray, dark blue, and orange.
Display
Display upgrades could also distinguish the models. The Air is anticipated to have a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2000 nits. Meanwhile, the Pro Max may feature a larger 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion technology.
Camera
Camera specifications are expected to vary significantly. The iPhone 17 Air is likely to include a 48MP rear camera and a 24MP front-facing camera. The Pro Max could boast a more advanced triple-lens setup, comprising a 48MP main camera, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.
Performance and battery
Both the Air and Pro Max are rumoured to run on Apple’s new A19 Pro chipset, built on TSMC’s 3nm architecture, and support 12GB of RAM, promising enhanced performance and multitasking. Battery capacities may differ, with the Air featuring a smaller 2,900mAh unit, while the Pro Max is expected to have a larger battery than its predecessors. All models are likely to support 35W fast charging and Qi 2 MagSafe wireless charging.
With the launch just days away, Apple fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of features and pricing, while leaks continue to fuel speculation about the company’s next-generation smartphones.
