Jamui: A new demand has started in Bihar after Gayaji was renamed with the suffix “ji”. Now people in Jamui are asking that the district should also be given respect by adding “ji” to its name. The demand was officially raised in a meeting of the Corruption Mukti Morcha on Saturday. The meeting took place at the house of patron Ram Dinesh Sharma and was led by the organisation’s president, Chandrachud Singh. According to the Morcha, adding “ji” will honour the heritage and importance of Jamui.
Members of the organisation said Jamui is the birthplace of Lord Mahavira and therefore deserves a respectful name. They said that every year millions of tourists from India and abroad visit Jamui because of its religious significance. They pointed out that Jamui has enough land available and that better facilities should be developed here. They especially demanded that Jamui should get air services soon so that more visitors can come easily.
Apart from the name change, the organisation talked about several problems and development needs of the district. They said many educated youth in Jamui are unemployed and asked the government to allow the construction of shops on unused land belonging to the Cooperative Department and Road Transport Department, which would create job opportunities. They also demanded that the closed crematorium be reopened immediately and that more work be done to protect the environment.
Traffic problems in the district were also discussed in detail. The members said that Mahisaudi Chowk and Bodhwan Talab Chowk face heavy traffic jams every day, and a flyover is needed to solve this problem. They also demanded deployment of traffic police at Gidhaur and Sono Chowk. The organisation further asked for steps to protect people from stray animals such as bulls and dogs, which are becoming a threat to safety on the streets.
During the meeting, the Morcha claimed that their movement earlier helped Jamui expand beyond the Kiul River. They said that after the bridge was built at Hanuman Ghat, the district administration got access to 80 acres of government land, which is now being used for various government buildings. Many members including Ravindra Yadav, Chandrashekhar Tiwari, Sudhir Vishwakarma, Shivraj Pratap Singh, Rintu Singh, Ranjit Kumar Singh, and former Mukhiya Devendra Singh were present in the meeting.
