Patna: The Jan Suraj Party has demanded strong action against Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, accusing him of fraud and misuse of law. On Tuesday, a delegation of four party leaders, including national president Uday Singh and state president Manoj Bharti, went to Raj Bhavan in Patna to submit a memorandum. They were scheduled to meet Governor Arif Mohammad Khan but were only able to hand over their memorandum and a letter for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Governor’s Principal Secretary.
After the visit, Uday Singh told reporters that they were disappointed the Governor did not meet them, but said they still have faith that the message will reach both the Governor and the Prime Minister. “If action is not taken against Samrat Chaudhary, we will go to court,” Singh said. He added that the party’s demand is to remove Chaudhary from the post of Deputy Chief Minister and begin a fair investigation under the supervision of the High Court.
The Jan Suraj Party has claimed that Samrat Chaudhary, also known as Rakesh Kumar, had used fake documents to present himself as a minor in a 1995 police case in Tarapur, where he was accused in a serious crime. They said he obtained bail by showing a school certificate that claimed he was under 16. Later, in 1999, when he was made agriculture minister, the Governor removed him because he was under 25 years of age. His 2000 assembly election was also declared void by the Supreme Court in 2003 on the same grounds.
According to the memorandum, Chaudhary continued to give different ages in his election papers. In the 2010 assembly election he wrote his age as 28, while in the 2020 legislative council election he declared himself 51. Jan Suraj leaders said these numbers do not match the court’s earlier observations. “He has misled the judicial system and the people of Bihar,” Uday Singh said. The party has demanded that he be removed from office, arrested in the pending cases, and investigated properly to maintain public trust in democracy and the rule of law.
