Patna: The owner of a jewellery shop was shot in the abdomen during an alleged robbery attempt in Patna’s Kankarbagh police station area on Friday night, police said.
Deepak Kumar, owner of Aanchal Alankar Jewellers, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital. His condition remains critical, according to the information available.
Manoj Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) 1 (Sadar), confirmed the incident and said police had recovered a pistol from the spot. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused.
Assailant Entered Through Rear Door
The incident took place at around 9pm on Friday. Deepak Kumar was inside the shop while its front shutter was partially lowered. The rear door was open.
According to the initial account, an armed man entered the shop through the back door. Deepak Kumar’s wife noticed him and confronted him.
Deepak then intervened to help his wife, leading to a confrontation with the assailant.
Firing During Struggle
During the struggle, the assailant allegedly fired his pistol. The bullet struck Deepak Kumar in the abdomen, leaving him seriously injured.
The assailant fled the shop after the shooting and left the pistol behind. Police reached the location after receiving information about the incident.
Deepak was taken to a nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment in the ICU.
Police Examine CCTV Footage
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events and identify the assailant.
Raids are also being conducted at possible locations to trace the accused. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
