Jharkhand: Jharkhand Health Minister has offered a lucrative government job to a woman doctor at the centre of a hijab-related controversy in Bihar, escalating the political and social debate surrounding the incident.
Irfan Ansari said on Friday that Dr Nusrat Parveen would be offered a monthly salary of Rs. 3,00,000, a posting of her choice and official accommodation if she agreed to work in the state. The offer follows widespread criticism of an incident in Bihar in which the doctor was allegedly asked to remove her hijab.
Ansari said Jharkhand ensured dignity, security and respect for medical professionals, particularly women. “While a woman doctor was humiliated elsewhere, Jharkhand will offer her honour and protection,” he said, adding that doctors in the state were valued for their service.
The minister also highlighted Jharkhand’s policy of appointing doctors on contract through a tender process, under which specialists can receive high monthly remuneration along with housing and preferred postings.
The offer has drawn national attention, with political leaders weighing in on issues of religious freedom, women’s dignity and the working conditions of healthcare professionals in public service.
