Justice Sudhir Singh Sworn in as Patna High Court Judge, Following in Father’s Judicial Footsteps

Patna: Justice Sudhir Singh was sworn in as a judge of the Patna High Court on Tuesday, marking his return to the bench where he previously served. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice V.M. Pancholi in a ceremony held at the High Court.
Justice Singh, who has been transferred from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, will now serve as the most senior judge of the Patna High Court after Chief Justice Pancholi. His appointment is seen as a significant addition to the judicial strength of the court, given his extensive legal experience and prior tenure in Patna.
A second-generation judge, Justice Singh follows in the footsteps of his father, Justice N.P. Singh, who served on the bench of the Supreme Court of India. His return to Patna is being viewed as a homecoming that will benefit the court’s functioning.
Justice Singh began his legal career in 1991 after completing his education at Vikas Vidyalaya in Ranchi and earning degrees in political science and law from Patna University. He previously served as a standing counsel for the Central Government and represented Indian Railways in various legal matters.
His judicial career began in April 2015 when he was appointed as an additional judge of the Patna High Court. He became a permanent judge in April 2016 and was later transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in November 2023. On 20 July, he arrived in Patna from Chandigarh ahead of his swearing-in ceremony.
As the senior-most judge after the Chief Justice, Justice Singh is expected to play a pivotal role in handling several key cases and strengthening the judicial processes of the Patna High Court.
