Patna: Divorce proceedings between Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh and his wife Jyoti Singh have taken a contentious turn, with both sides levelling allegations in court and on social media.
At a hearing on March 25, Singh, popularly known as the Bhojpuri “Power Star”, accused his wife of harassment and attempting to disrupt his family. He told the court that he had endured “constant mental and physical abuse” since their marriage and said there was “absolutely no chance” of reconciliation.
Shortly afterwards, Jyoti Singh released a three-minute video on social media presenting her version of events. In it, she questioned the expectation that a failed relationship should define a person’s life. “Should I die just because a relationship with one person went sour?” she said, adding that she had no desire to be idolised as a “goddess” after death.

The remark appeared to allude to Singh’s earlier public statements about his first wife, Neelam Singh, whom he had once described as a “goddess” for her support. Neelam Singh died by suicide in 2015.
Jyoti Singh’s video came amid online trolling over a separate Instagram post in which she sang a Bhojpuri song she mistakenly attributed to her husband. The track was originally performed by Khesari Lal Yadav. After facing criticism, she issued an apology, saying she was unaware of the song’s origin and did not regularly listen to Bhojpuri music.
Going live on social media later, she said the backlash had escalated beyond proportion. “I had no idea a simple song would spark such controversy,” she said, while also condemning abusive comments directed at her. “Do people not have mothers or sisters at home?” she asked.

Addressing the scrutiny surrounding her behaviour, Jyoti Singh said she had been judged regardless of how she expressed herself. “When I go out, people say I am the reason for the separation. When I cry, they say I am seeking sympathy. When I laugh, they say I don’t care,” she said. “What do you want me to do? Do you want me to die?”
She also referred to the personal toll of the marriage, saying that “no one has seen what I have endured over the past eight years”, and added that she was continuing her life for the sake of her parents.
The couple married in March 2018 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, in a ceremony that surprised many fans. Their relationship, however, has since deteriorated, culminating in the ongoing legal dispute.
The case continues to unfold in court, with both parties publicly asserting conflicting narratives about the breakdown of their marriage.
