Patna: The Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur six-lane Ganga bridge, one of Bihar’s major road infrastructure projects, has been completed and is awaiting inauguration.

The project, built at an estimated cost of around Rs 5,000 crore, is expected to improve connectivity between Patna and several parts of north Bihar, including Samastipur.

19.30km Project With Six-Lane Connectivity

The main bridge, constructed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL), is about 9.76km long and stands on 67 pillars.

Including its approach roads, the entire project has a length of around 19.30km. Officials expect the new route to reduce travel distance and journey time between Patna and north Bihar.

The bridge has been built using extradosed cable bridge technology.

Expected To Support Trade And Transport

The new road link is also expected to facilitate the movement of commercial vehicles between north and south Bihar.

Improved connectivity could help reduce transportation time for agricultural produce and other goods travelling to markets, according to officials.

The project is also expected to provide an additional route for commercial traffic and support economic activity in the region.

Alternative Route For Patna Traffic

Path Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal said the bridge would help improve connectivity and could ease traffic pressure in parts of Patna.

The route is expected to provide an alternative corridor for heavy and commercial vehicles, potentially reducing pressure on existing roads.

Link To Wider Road Network

The Mahasetu is also expected to strengthen connectivity with the proposed Patna Ring Road and the Amas–Darbhanga route.

Areas including Danapur, Digha, Shivala and Bihta are expected to benefit from the wider connectivity network. Road links in Kanhauli, Dumri, Nayagaon, Kacchi Dargah and Sabalpur are also expected to improve.

With construction now complete, the project is awaiting inauguration before the six-lane bridge can be opened to traffic.
