Khagaria: Three people were killed on Thursday morning after a stone chips-laden truck allegedly went out of control and overturned upon an auto-rickshaw on NH-31 near Gauchhari in Khagaria district, triggering panic and a large-scale rescue effort.
The deceased were identified as CISF (central industrial security force) jawan Bipin Chaurasia, his wife Deepmala Chaurasia and the auto-rickshaw driver Tankesh Muni.
According to local residents and preliminary police accounts, Bipin Chaurasia had returned home on leave and was travelling with his wife to the railway station at around 5am to resume duty when the accident took place.
Rescue operation launched by locals
Witnesses said people from nearby areas rushed to the scene immediately after the crash and began rescue efforts before police arrived. Residents attempted to remove those trapped beneath the overturned truck and the debris.
Police later reached the site and, with the help of villagers, recovered the bodies and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.
Accident took place in Maheshkhut police station area
The incident occurred on NH-31 at Gauchhari under the Maheshkhut police station limits. The crash left the surrounding area in shock, with crowds gathering as emergency services worked at the site.
Several others were reportedly injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment. Authorities have not yet released detailed updates on their condition.
Probe under way
Initial findings suggest the truck lost control before overturning upon the auto-rickshaw. Police said an investigation is under way to establish the exact cause of the crash.
