Kishanganj: The Income Tax Department launched a large-scale raid in Kishanganj, targeting the premises of a prominent local industrialist over alleged financial irregularities and black money.
Teams from Patna and other cities descended on the eastern Bihar town at dawn, carrying out simultaneous searches at business and residential locations including Nemchand Road, Bhagat Toli, Dharamshala Road and Paschimpali. The operation was backed by heavy police and paramilitary deployment to secure the areas and restrict public movement.
Officials have not disclosed the identity of the businessman or issued an official statement, but sources said investigators are scrutinising documents and records that could be linked to illegal financial transactions. Eyewitnesses reported that locals and shopkeepers near the raid sites were barred from gathering in the vicinity.
The raids, which continued through the day and are expected to stretch into the night, have unsettled the city’s business community. Residents said rumours circulated widely as news of the operation spread, prompting the district administration to urge calm and advise people not to pay heed to speculation.
