Kishanganj: A dramatic anti-corruption operation shocked Kishanganj district on Tuesday when a revenue department employee was arrested inside a hotel while allegedly accepting a bribe. The vigilance team had been investigating the case for days and positioned itself near the Khagra Block Office early in the morning to execute the sting. The sudden arrest caused confusion and curiosity among people nearby, as officers stormed into the hotel to catch the employee in action.
The case began after Owais Ansari, a resident of Khagra, reported that revenue employee Rajdeep Paswan demanded Rs 2.5 lakh in return for measuring his land. Measuring land is a government service, but the employee allegedly turned it into an illegal financial demand. After receiving the complaint, the vigilance department carried out its own inquiry and confirmed that the allegations were true.
To trap the accused, the vigilance department planned a sting operation at Abhishek Hotel near the block office. Owais was handed the demanded money and instructed to meet the employee at the hotel. A seven-member vigilance team surrounded the hotel, waiting for the moment the bribe changed hands. As soon as Owais gave the money to Rajdeep Paswan, the vigilance team rushed in and arrested him in full view of those present. The cash was seized as evidence on the spot.
Vigilance DSP Vinod Kumar confirmed that action was taken based on a written complaint filed by Owais. He stated that the employee was caught red-handed and would now be taken to Patna for further investigation and legal proceedings. The arrest has created tension among revenue staff in the district, with many reportedly worried about ongoing vigilance surveillance and possible future raids.
