Patna: Union ministers Lalan Singh and Giriraj Singh criticised opposition parties over protests linked to the NEET paper leak issue, accusing them of avoiding discussion in Parliament while defending the Centre’s response to concerns raised by students.

The remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on social media platform ‘X’ that the welfare and future of the youth remained the government’s highest priority.

Lalan Singh Accuses Opposition Of Avoiding Debate

JD(U) leader and Union Minister Lalan Singh said the opposition’s approach to the issue was “irresponsible” and alleged that its leaders did not want a detailed discussion.

“The opposition does not actually want a discussion. If a discussion takes place, they will fall flat on their faces,” Singh said.

He claimed that opposition parties had initially demanded a discussion on the issue but were now attaching conditions to it.

“The government was ready for a discussion, but the opposition is now running away and putting forward conditions. Parliamentary discussions do not take place on the basis of conditions,” he said.

Giriraj Singh Defends Government’s Action

Union Minister Giriraj Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first leaders to express concern over the impact of the paper leak on students.

He accused the opposition of attempting to create a narrative around the issue and said that any person concerned about students would take the matter seriously.

Giriraj Singh said the government had taken steps to ensure transparency in examinations, adding that arrangements were strengthened for subsequent exams, results were declared, and steps were announced for setting up fast-track courts.

Giriraj Singh Raises Rajasthan Paper Leak Cases

Targeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Giriraj Singh referred to alleged paper leak cases during the tenure of the previous Rajasthan government led by Ashok Gehlot.

He asked whether the opposition had demanded the resignation of the then chief minister when similar allegations were raised in Rajasthan.

The NEET paper leak issue has triggered protests by students and opposition parties, with demands for accountability and a probe into alleged irregularities in the examination process.
