The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav's family vacated the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna on Monday after the expiry of the state's final deadline. Sources said Tejashwi Yadav has shifted to the government-allotted residence at 1 Polo Road, while work at other official and private residences is still incomplete.

Patna: The Lalu Prasad Yadav family on Monday vacated the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road, bringing an end to their stay at one of Bihar’s most politically significant addresses. Monday was the final day of the deadline issued by the Bihar Building Construction Department for vacating the residence.

While the bungalow has now been vacated, the family’s long-term residential plans are yet to become clear.

According to sources, former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has temporarily shifted to the government residence at 1 Polo Road, which has been officially allotted to him.

On Monday morning, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi briefly visited the 10 Circular Road residence to inspect the remaining arrangements before returning to 1 Polo Road.

Belongings Shifted Throughout the Day

Household belongings were moved out of the bungalow throughout Monday. Small transport vehicles were seen carrying furniture and other items from 10 Circular Road to the family’s Kautilya Nagar property.

Photographs from the residence showed the family leaving the bungalow while the shifting process continued.

Government Had Issued Final Seven-Day Notice

The Bihar Building Construction Department had issued its final notice to the Lalu family on June 22, directing them to vacate the government residence within seven days.

The department had previously issued four separate notices and warned that failure to vacate the premises by June 29 would invite action under the Bihar Government Premises Act.

The bungalow has already been allotted to Bihar minister Nand Kishore Ram, who has not yet received possession because the premises remained occupied.

39 Harding Road Residence Not Yet Ready

Rabri Devi has been allotted a government residence at 39 Harding Road, but officials say the property is not yet ready for occupation.

Only around 70% of the work has been completed. Painting in several rooms is still pending, cleaning work remains unfinished, furniture has not been installed, and air conditioners are yet to be fitted.

Interior work in the special room being prepared for Lalu Prasad Yadav is also incomplete. More than 50 workers are engaged in finishing the project, and officials estimate another week may be required before the residence becomes fully habitable.

Private Kautilya Nagar House Still Under Construction

The family’s private residence at Kautilya Nagar is also under construction.

Electrical fittings, false ceiling work, interior decoration, furniture installation and final finishing are still in progress. Workers are completing the project on a war footing, but the residence is expected to take another 15 to 20 days before becoming ready for occupation.

Mahua Bagh Property May Take Months

Construction is also continuing at another private residence owned by the family in Mahua Bagh.

Interior finishing, electrical work and other construction activities remain incomplete. Sources indicate that the property may require another three to four months before it is ready for use.

Department Asked for Inventory Before Handover

Before vacating the bungalow, Rabri Devi’s assistant wrote to the Building Construction Department requesting the official charge register and a complete inventory of all government-provided furniture and equipment at the residence.

The request was made to ensure proper verification of every government asset during the handover process and to prevent any future dispute regarding official property.

CCTV cameras installed at the government bungalow were also removed on Friday as part of the handover preparations.

Why This Matters

The vacation of the 10 Circular Road bungalow marks the end of the Lalu family’s long association with one of Bihar’s most recognisable political addresses. While the official residence has now been handed over, the family’s permanent relocation remains uncertain as both government-allotted and privately owned properties are still undergoing construction.
