Patna: After almost two decades at one of Patna’s most recognisable political addresses, the family of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad is preparing to vacate the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road.
The move follows a decision by the state government to reclaim the official residence. According to people familiar with the developments, the family will first shift to an older private house located behind the Veterinary College campus in Patna, adjacent to the bungalow of Subhash Yadav. The property, long owned by the family, is currently undergoing extensive renovation.
The relocation is expected after January 14, once Kharmas — a period considered inauspicious in the Hindu calendar — comes to an end. Although a new sprawling bungalow is under construction in Patna’s Mahuabagh area, its completion is still several months away, making the Veterinary College residence a temporary but immediate alternative.
Renovation work at the house has been stepped up in recent days. Around two dozen labourers are reportedly working in shifts to complete repairs and upgrades, with painting, finishing and interior work now in the final stages. Modern amenities are being added both inside and outside the building to make it ready for occupation.
The house is understood to have five bedrooms and two large halls, offering enough space for the extended family. A garden area is also being developed as part of the refurbishment, with attention focused on comfort and functionality rather than scale.
