Patna: The Bihar government has formally demarcated land for the proposed Dehri Haat near the Indrapuri Barrage, signalling progress on a tourism project intended to transform the area into a cultural and commercial hub.
Around 10 acres of land adjacent to the Indrapuri Barrage reservoir in Rohtas district have been marked with red and yellow flags, and a project banner has been installed outlining the proposed facilities. These include a Dehri Haat guest house, eco-friendly cottages, tourist shops, geodesic dome suites and a dedicated tourist amenities centre. At present, the earmarked land is under cultivation, with mustard and potato crops growing on the site.
Tauqeer Ahmed, the revenue officer of Dehri, said the project is being planned on the lines of Mithila Haat, a well-known cultural marketplace in north Bihar. “The proposal has been sent to the department, and the tender process for construction has already been completed,” he said, adding that parking facilities, food outlets and multiple stalls are planned to cater to tourists visiting the barrage.
The land belongs to the Water Resources Department, and construction will proceed following formal approvals. According to officials, the 10-acre plot has now received the necessary no-objection certificate (NOC), clearing a key administrative hurdle.
Ajay Kumar Singh, chief engineer of the Water Resources Department in Dehri, said the project had earlier faced delays after the NOC was withdrawn due to departmental land requirements. “Following discussions, the district administration identified available government land. On that basis, an NOC has now been issued for 10 acres near the Indrapuri Barrage for the tourist market,” he said.
The Dehri Haat is being developed under the Bihar government’s tourism initiative, with officials hoping it will enhance the visitor experience at the Indrapuri Barrage while creating new economic opportunities for local traders, artisans and service providers in the region.
