Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has clarified that learners whose driving licence has expired after the six-month validity period do not need to apply afresh. Instead, they can renew the licence online through the official portal and reactivate its validity.
Clarification From Transport Department
Officials said many applicants mistakenly believe that an expired learner’s licence requires a new application, often leading to unnecessary visits to cyber cafés or intermediaries. The department has confirmed that a renewal option is already available on its website.
Online Renewal Process
According to transport officials, applicants can log in to the department’s portal, select the renewal option for the learner’s licence, and pay the prescribed fee online. Once completed, the licence is reactivated without requiring a fresh application process.
Extended Validity After Renewal
Officials said that after renewal, the learner’s licence is extended for another six months. This period allows applicants to become eligible for applying for a permanent driving licence.
Test Options for Applicants
The department provides two modes for the learner’s licence test. Applicants can either appear for a computer-based test at the Transport Office or, in certain cases, take the test online from home or office. If the online option is chosen, Aadhaar-linked address details are automatically updated in the system.
Application Requirements and Documents
Applicants must submit basic personal details, including name, address, date of birth, and blood group, through the online system. Required documents include Aadhaar card, educational certificates, blood group report, photograph, and signature. After uploading documents, applicants must pay the fee and book a test slot.
Advisory on Application Errors
Transport officials have advised applicants to carefully verify all details before submission. Errors in name, address, or other information can be corrected in some cases through supporting documents, but changes in date of birth are significantly more difficult and may require cancellation of the licence and a fresh application.
Officials have urged applicants to double-check all entries to avoid delays, financial loss, and procedural complications.
