Patna: Police seized a consignment of liquor from a Rapido car during a vehicle inspection drive near the Patna Junction roundabout after discovering bottles concealed inside a briefcase. The suspected smuggler escaped while officers were conducting the search, prompting an investigation.
An FIR has been registered at Kotwali police station, and police said efforts are under way to identify and arrest the suspect.
Liquor Hidden in Passenger’s Briefcase
According to police, the suspect had booked a Rapido ride near Patna Junction. After the vehicle arrived, he placed a large briefcase in the car’s boot before proceeding towards his destination.
While the vehicle was passing through the Patna Junction roundabout, police were carrying out routine inspections. During the check, officers opened the boot to inspect the luggage. Taking advantage of the situation, the passenger fled the spot before he could be apprehended.
Liquor Consignment Recovered
Police searched the briefcase left behind and recovered a substantial quantity of liquor. The consignment was seized, and investigators have begun examining the case to determine its source and intended destination.
Search operations are continuing to trace the absconding suspect, police said.
Rapido Driver Questioned, Released
During questioning, the Rapido driver told police that he was unaware the passenger’s briefcase contained liquor. After recording his statement, police released the driver.
Investigators have obtained the mobile number used to book the Rapido ride and are using it to identify the suspect. Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
