Patna: A bomb threat email targeting the Passport Seva Kendra operating from the sub-post office premises in Maner triggered a major security response on Monday, with police evacuating the building and launching a search operation.
The incident comes shortly after a similar bomb threat targeting Patna Civil Court, raising concerns among security agencies.
Threat Received Through Official Email
According to preliminary information, the threatening message was sent to the official email address of the Postal Superintendent (Passport). The sender claimed that “our Prophet has been insulted” and threatened to release cyanide gas inside the post office before blowing up the premises using RDX.
Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the email and have not confirmed whether the threat is credible.
Premises Evacuated as Precaution
Soon after the email was received in the afternoon, Maner police reached the Passport Seva Kendra and evacuated the entire post office complex as a precaution.
Employees and members of the public were safely moved out of the building, following which the premises were sealed and a detailed search operation was initiated.
Bomb Disposal Squad Deployed
The Bomb Disposal Squad and other security agencies were called to the site to conduct a thorough inspection of the premises. Police also increased security in the surrounding area while the search operation continued.
Officials said all necessary precautions were being taken to ensure public safety while the investigation remained underway.
Cyber Team Tracing Email Origin
The police cyber team has begun a technical analysis of the threatening email to identify its origin and trace the sender.
Investigators are examining whether the email was intended to create panic or forms part of a genuine security threat. No explosive material had been reported recovered from the premises at the time of writing.
Public Asked to Avoid Rumours
The administration has appealed to the public not to circulate or believe unverified information and to rely only on official updates.
Officials said security arrangements remain in place and assured that the matter is being investigated with due seriousness.
