Patna: Patients seeking treatment at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in Shastri Nagar are set to receive a major boost in healthcare services, with the hospital’s newly constructed 400-bed facility expected to begin outpatient department (OPD) operations from July.
According to hospital officials, the new OPD will have the capacity to treat nearly 1,500 patients every day — a sharp increase from the current daily footfall of around 400 to 500 patients at the existing facility. Preparations for the launch have been accelerated as construction work nears completion.
Hospital director Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaudhary said the new building would be equipped with modern medical infrastructure and advanced treatment facilities aimed at improving patient care in the state capital.
The hospital administration is also in the process of procuring medical machinery and equipment worth approximately Rs 45 crore for the new block. Officials said installation work and other preparations are expected to be completed within the next two months before OPD services formally begin.
The expansion is also expected to strengthen specialist treatment services at the hospital. Authorities have indicated that robotic-assisted surgery facilities may be introduced in the near future for complex procedures, including orthopaedic and neurosurgical operations.
To manage the anticipated rise in patient numbers, the hospital has proposed the recruitment of 150 additional staff members, including doctors, junior doctors, nurses and paramedical personnel. A formal request has already been sent to the state health department, hospital officials confirmed.
The new facility is expected to significantly ease pressure on existing healthcare infrastructure in Patna while improving access to advanced medical treatment for patients across Bihar.
