Motihari: Police in Motihari have taken two men into custody following the gang rape of a teenage girl who was allegedly abducted near her home and subjected to a “heinous act of brutality” by a relative and his associates.
The victim, a minor, is currently being treated at Sadar Hospital for severe injuries. Medical staff report that the girl has been left unable to speak due to trauma and physical injuries, including significant swelling of the lips. According to family members and local reports, the attackers reacted with extreme violence when the girl attempted to resist, biting her repeatedly on the chest, neck, and fingers.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening in a village under the jurisdiction of the Raxaul police station. The victim’s mother said the girl was returning home at approximately 7:30 pm after tethering goats in a cowshed when she was intercepted just 100 metres from her doorstep.
“The area between our house and the cowshed is secluded,” the mother stated. “My daughter was barely 100 metres away when the accused gagged her, lifted her up, and carried her away.”
The primary accused, described as a cousin of the victim, allegedly carried out the assault alongside four or five friends in a nearby field. Investigators confirmed that bloodstains and the victim’s slippers were recovered from the crime scene, which sat roughly 20 feet below road level.
Villagers claimed the lead suspect had recently returned from across the border in Nepal and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the abduction. It is alleged he used a gamcha (a traditional cotton towel) to muffle the girl’s cries before dragging her into the field.
The horror of the assault has been exacerbated by a history of internal family friction. Local residents noted that the families of the victim and the lead accused have been embroiled in a bitter, long-standing land dispute dating back to their grandfathers’ generation—a feud so deep that the two households had long ceased speaking.
The alarm was raised when the victim’s brother heard screams and rushed to the field, though the perpetrators had already fled the scene by the time he arrived. When the victim’s family later confronted the suspects at their residence, the encounter reportedly descended into further physical violence before the police were notified.
Hemant Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Raxaul and an IPS probationer, confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged naming five individuals.
“Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with this case,” Kumar said. “The police are currently investigating the matter.”
The case has sent shockwaves through the district, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the safety of women and minors in rural Bihar and the devastating intersection of family disputes and gender-based violence.
