Patna: Folk singer Maithili Thakur is in the Netherlands for cultural performances at the Eindeloos India Festival, where she is representing Bihar’s folk traditions and music.
Welcome At India House
After arriving in the Netherlands, Thakur visited India House, where India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Kumar Tuhin, welcomed her and her family.
The ambassador also hosted a special evening for Thakur and the delegation from Bihar, bringing together guests to celebrate India’s cultural traditions.
Bihar’s Folk Heritage
During the gathering, Thakur spoke about Bihar’s rich folk culture and the emotions reflected in its traditional songs.
She explained how folk music captures everyday life, relationships and human emotions, while preserving cultural traditions across generations.
‘Chaiti’ Performance
Thakur also performed the traditional Chaiti song, “Naihar se kehu nahi aile ho Ram…”
The song expresses a woman’s longing for her maternal home after marriage and her anticipation of meeting loved ones during the month of Chaitra, following the Phagun season.
Audience Praises Performance
Guests at the event praised Thakur’s singing and her presentation of Bihar’s cultural heritage.
Some audience members said watching her perform in person was a memorable experience, particularly after having previously seen her performances on television.
