Kishanganj: A second-year MBBS student was found dead under suspicious circumstances at MGM Medical College in Bihar’s Kishanganj district on Friday, triggering panic within the campus and prompting a detailed police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Anushka Jain, a Part-II MBBS student. According to initial information, she was found hanging in her hostel room. College authorities alerted the police immediately after the incident came to light.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manglesh Kumar said the student’s body was discovered hanging in a hostel room under suspicious circumstances. “Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot, took the body into custody, and sent it to Kishanganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem,” he said.
Following the incident, chaos gripped the college premises. Police from Sadar police station reached the spot, sealed the room, and began an investigation. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also examined the scene to collect evidence and ascertain the sequence of events.
Considering the seriousness of the case, Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar and District Magistrate Vishal Raj visited the spot and directed officers to conduct a thorough probe from all possible angles. Police are currently questioning the student’s classmates, hostel mates, and college authorities to determine the circumstances leading to her death.
Family members of the deceased rushed to Kishanganj after being informed about the incident. It is reported that Anushka Jain’s father, Anil Kumar Jain, is a doctor based in Ara.
Officials said that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received. Meanwhile, police stated that all angles, including foul play, are being investigated.
