Patna: A team from the electricity department conducted a raid on a plastic granule manufacturing unit allegedly running on stolen electricity in Mughalpura Chhoti Bazar under Khajekalan police station area of Patna. During the operation, officials confirmed large-scale power theft through tampering with the electricity meter and registered an FIR against the factory operator.
After several hours of inspection, engineers found that the electricity meter had been tampered with to illegally draw power. The meter was seized and sealed for further examination. Authorities have imposed a penalty of Rs 20,39,270 on the accused.
According to officials, the raid was carried out on Thursday afternoon at a factory operating under the name Anushka Enterprises, where plastic granules were allegedly being produced using illegally tapped electricity.
Avinash Kumar, Superintending Engineer of PESU East, and Sajjad Ansari, Executive Engineer of the Gulzarbag Electricity Supply Division, said that the FIR was filed by Sujit Kumar, Assistant Engineer of the Meena Bazar Substation.
During the investigation, officials found that the meter had been tampered with and manipulated to facilitate electricity theft. The meter was removed and sealed for technical analysis.
The accused has been identified as Bunty Kumar, son of late Ajay Kumar Sharma, who runs the factory. An FIR has been lodged against him at Alamganj police station.
The raid was conducted by a team comprising more than half a dozen engineers, including members of the PESU East MRT team.
