Patna: A notorious criminal shot during a police encounter in Khusrupur has escaped from the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), raising serious concerns over hospital security and police oversight.
Mithun, who was critically injured after being shot in the leg two days ago, managed to flee NMCH around 3 a.m. on Monday despite being under constant police guard. The circumstances of his escape remain unclear, prompting questions about potential lapses or insider assistance.
A resident of the Salimpur police station area, Mithun has at least eight cases registered against him across Khusrupur, Salimpur, and Jharkhand, including robbery, loot, and illegal possession of weapons. The Khusrupur police had arrested him following an encounter two days prior.
Rural Superintendent of Police Aparajit Lohan said a special team had been formed to track Mithun, who remains at large. “We are conducting raids at all possible hideouts and are confident he will be re-arrested soon,” he added.
Two policemen tasked with guarding Mithun during his hospital stay have been suspended with immediate effect for negligence. The station house officer of the area has also been asked to explain the security lapse. Authorities are investigating whether Mithun received assistance from within the system.
