Patna: The Bihar Assembly witnessed heated debate on Thursday over remarks made by Madhya Pradesh IAS officer Santosh Verma, with LJP (Ram Vilas) MLA Raju Tiwari demanding strict action against him.
Tiwari, who identifies as a Brahmin, called Verma’s comments “extremely unfortunate” and urged the government to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the officer. Speaking in the Assembly, he accused Verma of disregarding the dignity of his position by making objectionable statements about Brahmin daughters.
Addressing the Speaker, the Chief Minister, and other members, Tiwari said: “An FIR should be filed and strict action must be taken against the officer so that no one can insult the dignity of any caste or community in the future.”
The controversy stems from Verma’s remarks at a public meeting, where he allegedly stated that caste-based reservations in India would not end until a Brahmin daughter married his son. Verma, who serves as president of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Officers and Employees Association (AJAKS), has faced criticism for the statements, which many have condemned as derogatory.
