Patna: The monsoon has gained momentum once again in Bihar, bringing much-needed rainfall and a drop in temperatures. Since Tuesday morning, Patna has remained overcast with light showers, while Begusarai has been receiving intermittent rain since Monday night. Other districts such as Nalanda and Lakhisarai have also recorded rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for all 38 districts of the state for Tuesday. An orange alert—indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning—has been issued for 16 districts including Patna, while a yellow alert has been sounded for the remaining 22 districts including Purnia, warning of light to moderate rain and lightning.
According to IMD, the monsoon trough line is currently passing over Bihar, leading to intensified rainfall activity. A new low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, increasing atmospheric moisture and accelerating cloud formation over the state. If this system strengthens, southern and central Bihar may witness heavier rain in the coming days.
In the last 24 hours, several districts have recorded rainfall, with Munger, Kishanganj, and Aurangabad experiencing heavy downpours. Patna also witnessed a brief storm in the afternoon on Monday, followed by rainfall, and continued to remain under cloud cover into the evening.
The IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature in the state may fall by 2 to 3°C over the next two to three days, providing respite from the heat.
Farmers have been advised to ensure proper drainage in fields and to carry out agricultural activities based on the latest weather forecasts to prevent crop damage due to excessive waterlogging.
The state remains on alert as the rain-bearing system continues to strengthen, with authorities urging people to take necessary precautions against potential lightning and thunderstorms.
