Patna: The weather in Bihar is expected to take a brief turn, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in 26 districts on Monday. These areas may also experience gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h.
However, the rest of the state, including Patna, is likely to remain dry and sweltering under humid heat. The IMD has also warned that after July 8, temperatures will climb again, bringing back uncomfortable weather conditions.
Motihari Hottest at 38.5°C, No Rainfall Recorded in Past 24 Hours
Despite the monsoon season, no rainfall was reported anywhere in the state over the last 24 hours. Motihari emerged as the hottest district on Sunday, recording a maximum temperature of 38.5°C. Patna followed with 35.1°C, while Banka registered the lowest temperature at 31.3°C.
Most parts of Bihar saw clear skies and intense sunshine, with occasional light cloud cover. The oppressive combination of heat and humidity added to public discomfort.
42% Rain Deficit This Season So Far
As per data from the Patna Meteorological Centre, Bihar is facing a significant monsoon shortfall. By July 5, the state should have received around 219 mm of rainfall, but has only recorded 126 mm — a deficit of 42%.
Heavy Rain Likely in Next 24–48 Hours in Select Districts
The IMD stated that the monsoon trough line currently stretches from South to East Bihar. This could bring heavy showers in districts such as Patna, Kishanganj, and Araria over the next 24 to 48 hours.
While this may lead to a temporary dip in temperatures, the respite will be short-lived. After two days, heat and humidity are expected to return, especially in North Bihar, where alternating sunshine and cloud cover will keep conditions muggy.
No Rain Predicted in Patna for a Week
Residents of Patna should not expect relief anytime soon. According to the IMD, there is no forecast for rain in the city for the next seven days. The monsoon trough has shifted towards Central India, reducing the likelihood of showers in Bihar.
Only parts of eastern and southern Bihar may see light rainfall where atmospheric moisture levels rise. Otherwise, dry and sultry conditions will dominate across the state.
