Patna: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in 21 districts of Bihar on Tuesday, warning of light showers, thunderstorms, and winds up to 40 km/h. Meanwhile, the state capital Patna woke up to cloudy skies and heavy humidity, with light drizzle expected by evening.
According to the department, sporadic rainfall may occur in parts of Bihar over the next 48 hours, providing slight relief from the sultry weather.
However, the overall rainfall in the state remains below normal. So far, Bihar has received 498.9 mm of rainfall this season, which is 25 percent less than the average of 666.9 mm recorded by this time.
Monsoon to Strengthen After August 21
The department has forecast that the monsoon will revive after August 21, leading to widespread rain across Bihar. North Bihar districts such as Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar are expected to witness moderate to heavy rain. Southern and western regions, including Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, and Kaimur, are also likely to experience rainfall with thunder and lightning.
Weather in Patna and Other Districts
In Patna, the day temperature is projected to hover around 35°C with a marginal drop at night. On Monday, light rain was reported in parts of the city, but humidity persisted due to bright sunshine during the day.
Darbhanga was recorded as the hottest district in the last 24 hours at 35.2°C, followed by Patna at 34.8°C, Muzaffarpur at 33°C, and Banka at 31.8°C. Sunshine also dominated in districts like Chapra and Saharsa, where residents complained of discomfort due to heat.
The department explained that the monsoon trough has shifted southward from its usual position, while a cyclonic circulation is forming over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas, which is expected to trigger rainfall in northern and eastern Bihar.
Advisory Issued for Farmers and Public
Farmers have been advised to prevent waterlogging in their fields during rains and regularly monitor crops. The public has been cautioned to avoid open spaces and tall structures during lightning and to stay updated with official weather alerts on their mobile phones.
