West Champaran: Valmikinagar Lok Sabha MP Sunil Kumar has raised concerns in Parliament over illegal land grabbing and encroachment in Bihar’s only tiger reserve, the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), calling for urgent government intervention.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377 during the Winter Session, Kumar highlighted the ecological and economic significance of VTR, describing it as “a vital reserve for forest wealth, wildlife, and tourism.” He expressed concern over the continuous encroachment by private individuals, warning that the practice threatens both biodiversity and the tourism potential of the region.
Kumar noted that unauthorised construction and occupation of reserve land in recent years have disrupted the natural balance of the park, leading to a decline in domestic and international visitors. He cautioned that failure to act could result in long-term damage to wildlife conservation efforts and the local economy.
The MP called on the central government to investigate the matter, take strict action against those responsible, remove illegal encroachments, and restore the reserve to its original condition.
