Muzaffarpur/Patna: A Bihar Military Police (BMP) jawan was killed and two people, including a sub-inspector, were seriously injured after a speeding Scorpio lost control and struck them near Motipur police station in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Bhargav Bhushan, a resident of Purnia district who had been posted at Motipur police station for about a month.
The two injured people were identified as Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Kumar, posted at Motipur police station, and Vinod Kumar Sah, a shopkeeper from Purani Bazar.
Jawan, SI Had Gone To Buy Vegetables
According to reports, Bhushan and Dharmendra had left the police station to buy vegetables when the Scorpio lost control near the station and struck three people standing by the roadside.
The collision left all three seriously injured.
Local residents and police personnel rushed the injured to a hospital. Doctors declared Bhushan dead on arrival. Dharmendra and Sah were referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur for further treatment.
Driver Arrested
Senior police officials reached the scene after being informed of the accident. Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are taking steps to impound the vehicle.
The driver, Sumit Kumar of Samastipur, has been arrested, police said.
DSP Suchitra Kumari said the Scorpio struck two to three people near Motipur police station. She confirmed the death of the BMP jawan and said the injured sub-inspector and shopkeeper had been referred to SKMCH for treatment.
Bhushan’s body is being sent to SKMCH for a postmortem examination, according to the police.
