Nalanda: Nalanda district court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a villager whose body was found inside a sack in a well. The case, which dates back to April 2020, had caused deep shock in the area.
The Sixth Additional District and Sessions Judge, Dheeraj Kumar Bhaskar, convicted Saurabh Kumar of murder and kidnapping under the SC/ST Act. Along with life imprisonment, he was fined Rs 80,000. If he fails to pay, he will have to serve additional jail time. He also received other prison terms of three to ten years, but the judge ordered that all sentences will run together.
The victim, Nitish Kumar, had left home on his motorcycle on April 2, 2020, to get medicine for his mother but never returned. His father filed a missing complaint at Nalanda police station. After ten days of searching, police recovered Nitish’s body from a well in the accused’s village. His motorcycle was also found with Saurabh Kumar.
The court also ordered the Legal Services Authority to give compensation to Nitish’s parents. Meanwhile, the accused’s father, Mahesh Prasad, who is also named in the case, is still absconding.
