Patna: Bhojpuri actor and singer Khesari Lal Yadav has landed in controversy after a post he shared on social media about Premanand Maharaj. In his post, Yadav wrote that Premanand was “not a machine to wash away sins” and said people should follow his words with true faith instead of using his name for publicity.
The post quickly went viral and drew mixed reactions from fans. While some supported Khesari’s statement, many criticised him. Several users accused him of spreading vulgarity in Bhojpuri films and said he should not give moral lessons. One user commented that it was strange for someone with an “obscene image” to speak about religion and morality.
Some also linked his remarks to politics, pointing out that he had recently met Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the opposition in Bihar. Critics suggested that his statements were influenced by that meeting. Khesari, however, had called the meeting personal and described Tejashwi as his “Bade Bhaiya” (elder brother).
Not all responses were negative. A few users praised him for openly questioning the growing trend of using faith for self-promotion. Supporters said it was brave of him to speak up, though others felt his comments might unintentionally attract more publicity to Premanand Maharaj.
