Rajgir: Nalanda University has organised its third convocation ceremony alongside “Śāstrārtha 2026”, an academic initiative aimed at reviving the ancient university’s tradition of scholarly debate, dialogue and intellectual engagement.
University officials said the institution awarded degrees to Indian and international students within nearly a month of the completion of examinations, describing it as a demonstration of efficient academic coordination and timely execution of administrative processes.
Students From 14 Countries Participate
According to the university, students from 14 countries participated in the convocation ceremony before returning to their respective nations after completing their academic programmes.
Officials said the event reflected Nalanda University’s growing role as an international academic institution attracting students from across the world.
‘Śāstrārtha 2026’ Focused on Scholarly Dialogue
Alongside the convocation, the university organised “Śāstrārtha 2026”, a platform centred on dissertation defence, academic discussion and intellectual exchange.
The initiative included:
- Research-oriented academic sessions
- Dissertation presentations
- Scholarly debates and discussions
- Faculty-student academic interactions
University authorities said the programme was designed not merely as a ceremonial exercise but as an attempt to reconnect with the intellectual traditions associated with the historic Nalanda Mahavihara.
Vice Chancellor Highlights Guru–Śiṣya Tradition
Sachin Chaturvedi said the initiative aimed to revive the dialogic spirit of the ancient Guru–Śiṣya tradition through meaningful academic engagement.
According to Chaturvedi, the programme sought to encourage:
- Clarity of thought
- Methodological rigour
- Academic courage
- Public responsibility among students
He said the university wanted students to engage with ideas critically while connecting India’s knowledge traditions with contemporary academic discourse.
Nalanda Emerging as Global Academic Hub
University officials said Nalanda was steadily emerging as a centre for:
- Global intellectual dialogue
- Interdisciplinary learning
- Ethical knowledge traditions
- International academic collaboration
They added that the convocation and Śāstrārtha initiative reflected a broader institutional vision of integrating India’s civilisational knowledge systems with modern global scholarship.
The university said the event strengthened meaningful engagement between traditional Indian intellectual practices and contemporary academic frameworks.
