Rajgir: Nalanda University in Rajgir is set to host the East Asia Summit (EAS) conference of heads of higher education institutions from September 17 to 19, 2025, bringing together leaders, policymakers and experts to exchange ideas on education and sustainability.
The conference, first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 19th EAS in Laos last year, will be organised under the ASEAN-India University Network (AINU) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, ASEAN-India Centre at RIS, ASEAN Centre for Energy, RIS, CSDS, and TERI.
Discussions will focus on self-reliance in education, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), collaborative research, faculty and student exchanges, and energy conservation initiatives. A dedicated workshop under India’s Mission LiFE will highlight sustainable lifestyle practices and ways to promote environmental conservation.
The conference aims not only to strengthen India–EAS educational ties but also to provide a platform for dialogue on shared history, science, and global challenges. With participants from across EAS member countries, it will promote knowledge sharing and cooperation in higher education while encouraging responses to climate change.
“Nalanda University’s effort promotes mutual cooperation in higher education, and also aligns perfectly with India’s Mission LiFE,” said Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi. “We aim to inspire the adoption of sustainable lifestyles for environmental conservation and open new dimensions of global cooperation.”
As the headquarters of the AINU, Nalanda University is taking the lead in organising this international conference, which it hopes will serve as a milestone in building sustainable educational partnerships across Asia.
