Rajgir/Patna: Nalanda University is set to host its third convocation ceremony on May 19 at its campus in Rajgir, with degrees to be awarded to 219 students representing 14 nationalities.
The convocation, or Snatakotsava, will take place at the university’s newly built 2,000-seat Visvamitaralay Auditorium.
Principal Secretary To PM To Attend As Chief Guest
Dr. P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, will attend the ceremony as chief guest.
Other dignitaries expected to be present include:
- Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), Governor of Bihar
- Rudrendra Tandon, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs
University officials said the event would reflect Nalanda’s growing international academic profile and its emphasis on timely academic administration.

Degrees To Be Awarded Within Days Of Examinations
In what the university described as a first-of-its-kind initiative, the convocation is being held within nine days of the completion of examinations.
Officials said the move was aimed at ensuring students received their degrees quickly to support:
- higher education opportunities
- research admissions
- professional placements
The graduating batch of 2024–26 includes students from countries such as:
- Vietnam
- Bangladesh
- Bhutan
- Myanmar
along with several other international participants.
The university said the diverse cohort reaffirmed Nalanda’s identity as a globally oriented institution rooted in international academic exchange.
Seven Women Among Eight Gold Medallists
Eight students will receive gold medals for academic excellence during the ceremony.
According to the university, seven of the eight medal recipients are women, reflecting the strong academic performance of female scholars across disciplines.
Kautilya Centre To Be Inaugurated After Convocation
Following the convocation ceremony, the newly established Kautilya Centre for Capacity Building will also be inaugurated on campus.
University officials said the centre would focus on academic and institutional capacity-building initiatives in the coming years.
