Patna: Road connectivity in Jamui district is set for a significant upgrade as two new reinforced cement concrete (RCC) bridges will be constructed on National Highway-333A (NH-333A) at a combined cost of nearly Rs 150 crore. The new structures will replace ageing bridges over the Kiul and Suknar rivers, with the aim of improving travel between Khaira and Sono.
According to officials, the projects are expected to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity for residents and businesses in the region.
Rs 93.83 Crore Bridge Planned Over Kiul River
The larger of the two projects involves the construction of a new RCC bridge over the Kiul River near Nariyana Ghat at the 72-km mark of the Khaira–Sono stretch of NH-333A.
The project has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 93.83 crore and will replace the existing bridge with a modern structure designed to accommodate both light and heavy vehicles.
Rs 55.96 Crore Bridge to Replace Suknar River Crossing
A second RCC bridge will be built over the Suknar River near Mangobandar at the 80-km mark of NH-333A.
The bridge has received administrative approval with an estimated project cost of Rs 55.96 crore. Officials said the new structure will replace the existing bridge and improve connectivity along the corridor.
Improved Connectivity for Khaira and Sono
According to the project plan, the two bridges will strengthen road links between Khaira, Sono and nearby villages, making travel safer and more reliable throughout the year.
Officials said the upgraded infrastructure is also expected to improve access to local markets and essential services.
Relief During the Monsoon
The new bridges are expected to reduce travel disruptions during the monsoon, when ageing infrastructure often affects traffic movement.
With higher load-bearing capacity and modern engineering standards, the bridges are expected to ensure smoother traffic flow and improve overall road safety.
Boost for Trade and Transport
The improved road infrastructure is also expected to support commercial activity by facilitating faster movement of goods and reducing travel time for transporters using the NH-333A corridor.
Officials believe the project will contribute to better regional connectivity and support economic activity across parts of Jamui district.
