Patna: The districts of Jamui and Banka in Bihar are set for a major infrastructure upgrade, with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways approving plans to convert a 118km stretch of National Highway 333A into a modern super highway.
The project, which covers the Naraina–Sono–Jhajha–Simultala–Katoria section, is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve safety, and generate new employment opportunities. Officials said a detailed project report is being prepared, with construction slated to begin by the end of 2026 and the highway completed by 2028.
Local residents have long pressed for improvements to the route, citing difficulties in transport and frequent accidents. A 72km portion has already been upgraded, while the remaining 62km will now be modernised, including a 56km stretch between Katoria and Panjwara that will be concretised.
Officials said the new road will feature improved signalling, lane markings and traffic management systems, cutting travel time and reducing accidents. The improved connectivity is expected to accelerate trade and logistics, link rural areas to markets, schools and hospitals, and stimulate tourism.
“The project will not just be a road but a foundation for wider development,” one official said, adding that it would strengthen links between Bihar and neighbouring Jharkhand. Construction is also expected to create jobs for engineers, labourers and technicians.
